3. What threatens my life with God?

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Col 2:6-7

Something to learn…

Colossians 2:6-23
Below are some contextual keys to help you understand what’s going on here:

  • When Paul refers to the “spiritual elemental forces” he is most likely referring to the Colossae’s local presiding “gods” that were worshipped and attributed with power over different area’s and spheres of life within their local cultural context. The issue here is to do with idolatory. (2:8; 15; 20)

Something to talk about…

Read Col 2:6-23 out loud from the ICB version to include children and young people. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+2%3A6-23&version=ICB

1.What struck you in this passage?
2.What makes us vulnerable to the dangers Paul highlighted? What form do they take in your life, in our life as a church, in the UK Church in our times?
3.What does being disconnected from Christ looked like? What have you learnt about staying connected to Jesus?
4.What’s a struggle right now? What might God be inviting you to?

A spiritual practise to try…
